Ever since Toyota and Suzuki announced their joint venture, it was in the news that Maruti Suzuki will supply its three models namely Baleno, Ciaz, and Vitara Brezza to Toyota, while the latter will supply the Corolla Altis sedan to Suzuki in future. Toyota recently shared the teaser image of the first product to be launched out of this partnership. Known as Toyota Glanza, the car is based on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The hatchback will launch in India in June 2019, and the images you see here are the first undisguised photos of the Toyota's rebadged Maruti Baleno.

Surprisingly, the upcoming Toyota Glanza had undergone minimal changes. It follows the same design profile of the Maruti Baleno. There is no difference in exterior design apart from the Toyota badges and a new grille. The front of the car features the same chrome lip on the grille, but instead of the black part in the Baleno, the Toyota Glanza features thick slats of chrome. At the rear, there is no such change except for Toyota badge in centre, Glanza badge at the left, and the variant name badge on the right side.

Toyota Glanza will come in two variants: ‘V’ and ‘G’. It is expected to be available in five colour options: red, grey, blue, silver and white. The teaser shared by the company shows the side profile of Glanza which even wears the same alloy wheels as the Baleno. There are no images of its interior but it is likely to remain identical to that of Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

Mechanically, the car will be available with a single engine option. The 1.2-litre, K12C, 4-cylinder BS6 petrol engine is capable of delivering 84 HP of maximum power and 115 Nm of maximum torque. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox though Toyota will also offer CVT as an option on both the variants. As per the reports, the Glanza hatchback will not be available in diesel.
The key difference for Toyota Glanza would be its standard longer warranty. It is likely to get a 3-year/100,000km warranty as standard like the rest of the Toyota cars in India. Whereas, the Maruti Baleno comes with a standard 2-year/40,000km warranty. It is expected that Toyota Glanza will be a little bit higher in price than the Maruti Baleno. Other than its sibling, the Glanza will compete with the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, VW Polo, and the Honda Jazz in India.
