BS6 Mahindra Scorpio Z101 to Get 160HP Diesel Engine

A recent report in the automotive industry claims that the next-generation Mahindra Scorpio Z101 will feature an all-new 2.0L engine with 160 HP of overall power output. The car will use the 80 kg lighter engine to achieve the upcoming BS6 emission norms and the design as well as the structural update will help the brand stay within the same on secure cars as per the upcoming safety guidelines. The new Scorpio will be based on the same body on frame chassis to keep the tough SUV attitude high at all times. Mahindra will be using high strength materials in the construction of this frame, reducing the overall ride height to support the new engine and gearbox combination. The new Scorpio is known with the codename Z101 within the company and the primary focus of the update will be kept on retaining the overall practicality of the car. The 2.0L diesel engine is expected to produce more output in terms of torque when compared to the present-gen 2.2L mHawk engine. The availability of automatic gearbox and a 4x4 option will keep the selective variant list alive for the popular Scorpio brand. The car will be introduced in 2020 as the remaining one year will go into the testing of the new engine and components that are used in the construction. The high cost of the upgrade will take the ex-showroom price of the Scorpio Z101 much higher than the existing version as diesel engines are expected to get INR 1 lakh of price hike when made compatible to the BS6 emission norms. Mahindra has launched the Marazzo, Alturas, and XUV300 with safer structures and thus, remaining cars will be upgraded within the next one year to meet the safety norms. Some will be discontinued to save on the cost of research as those with fractional sales may not bring value for money anymore to the highest selling UV brand of India.
