As per a recent Instagram post, the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and M8 have reached a Mumbai dealership. The brand was expected to launch the 2020 iteration of coupes sometime around this month though the nationwide lockdown to curb the coronavirus has indefinitely halted every operation with the manufacturers.
The BMW 8 series has been brought to the Indian shores via a CKD route while the launch has been delayed by the brand until the situation gets better. The BMW 840i Gran Coupe has been specifically designed for the customers with a preference for a performance-oriented luxury vehicle. The brand had showcased the coupe back at the India Art Expo in New Delhi. The BMW M8 Coupe is for the audience looking for a powerful machine with mind-boggling performance.
Powering the BMW M8 is a 4.4-litre, V8, twin-turbo, S63 petrol engine that is good for offering maximum power of 591HP and a peak torque of 750Nm. On the other hand, the 3.0-litre, i6 engine equipped on the BMW 840i Gran Coupe is capable of generating 340HP of maximum power and an utmost torque of 500Nm.
Both the coupe variants have been mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 840i has a rear-wheel-drive system while the M8 offers power to all the four wheels. The top speed of the vehicles is said to be limited at 250 kmph while the M8 can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 3.3 seconds. The Competition-spec model of the M8 Coupe is good for 617HP of power and 750Nm of torque.
Once launched in India, the BMW M8 Coupe is expected to get a price tag of around INR 2 crores while the price tag for the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is expected to be around INR 1.5 crores. The bookings for both the Gran Coupe and M8 have started with the dealership though more details are expected to surface once the nationwide lockdown is lifted and the operations commence with the dealerships.
