Horiba-MIRA offers services to vehicle manufacturers in terms of development and recently, they came forward with a brand new Military SUV named RIV. The word stands for Rapid Intervention Vehicle and was commissioned by United Arab Emirates based brand, NIMR.
As expected, the vehicle was to be used in the desert for rapid operations in dangerous places and should be able to reach through Chinook Helicopters. The best part of all, it was to made from scratch and couldn't use any existing vehicle's design.
It just took 12 months to build one example from scratch and using a powerful 3.0 L, extra tuned V6 diesel engine from Maserati Ghibli, it certainly proved insane with 300 HP and 601 Nm of torque.
Staying true to its purpose, the SUV comes with Torsen T2R torque sensing differentials and gets ZF eight speed automatic transmission. The car is made in order to stay perfect in temperatures of around 55 degree Celsius. It weighs 4000 kg and still sprints from 0-100 kmph in just 10.5 seconds.
In order to clear the power values, you can imagine a Bajaj Pulsar NS200 doing the same despite of weighing just 152 kg. The body guides on RIV throw sand away from the interior while it can drive for around 966 km on a single fuel tank at around 100 kmph.
RIV is undoubtedly the fastest vehicle across the desert. The suspension brings 300 mm of ground clearance, which further can be lowered to just 120 mm for easy loading. Despite looking so innocent, it has all the modern equipment hidden under those sheets.
