BYD Seal India Specs Unveiled

BYD is preparing to launch its third product in India, the Seal EV, on March 5. The vehicle will be imported fully, and dealers have already started accepting unofficial bookings. The Seal EV was showcased in India for the first time at the 2023 Auto Expo.

India-Spec BYD Seal Powertrain, Specs, and Range

?The Seal will be available in India with an 82.5kWh battery pack and rear-wheel drive, offering a claimed range of 570km on the WLTP cycle. It features a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle capable of producing 230hp and 360Nm of torque. BYD claims a 0-100kph acceleration time of 5.9 seconds for this variant, which weighs 2,055kg.

The battery employs BYD's patented blade technology and supports charging speeds of up to 150kW allowing for a 10-80% charge in 37 minutes. Using a standard 11kW AC charger, the vehicle can be charged from 0-100% in 8.6 hours. There are also rumors of a dual-motor AWD variant with 530hp and a claimed range of 520km being offered.

BYD Seal Exterior, Interior, and Features

The Seal's design is inspired by the Ocean X concept from 2021 and follows BYD's "ocean aesthetics" design language. It features a coupe-like all-glass roof, flush-fitting door handles, four boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, a split headlamp design, and a full-width LED light bar at the rear.

The interior of the Seal includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a revolving 15.6-inch infotainment system in the center console, and a heads-up display for the driver. Central air vents encircle the floating touchscreen, which is positioned beneath the drive selector and a scroll wheel for changing driving modes. Along with these controls, the middle console houses the audio system's volume control, two wireless charging pads, and a heated windscreen.

BYD Seal Expected Price and Rivals

?The Seal is expected to be priced at around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a close competitor to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is priced at Rs 45.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The Ioniq 5 has similar specs, with an RWD motor producing 217hp and a 72.6kWh battery pack offering a claimed range of 630km.
