BMW Motorrad has revealed the F 450 R globally with a 420cc parallel-twin engine producing 48 hp and 43 Nm. The roadster has a stated ready-to-ride weight of 175 kg and a 790 mm standard seat. These are confirmed global specifications; BMW has not confirmed an India price, booking programme or launch date in the release.
What you need to know
The 420cc twin delivers 35 kW, or 48 hp, at 8,750 rpm.
Peak torque is 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm.
BMW lists four equipment versions with different standard features.
The Easy Ride Clutch is standard on the M Sport Innovation version and can be retrofitted to other versions.
Reported India timing should be treated as speculation until a local announcement.
Engine, weight and seat height
| Specification | Global release figure |
|---|---|
| Engine | 420cc parallel twin |
| Power | 35 kW / 48 hp at 8,750 rpm |
| Torque | 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm |
| Ready-to-ride weight | 175 kg |
| Standard seat | 790 mm |
| Optional seat heights | 775 mm and 810 mm |
| Fuel tank | 14 litres |
| Service interval | 10,000 km |
The engine uses a 135-degree crankpin offset. The published power and torque peaks describe different engine speeds, so they should not be combined into a claim that both maxima are available simultaneously. The ready-to-ride weight is also a different measurement from dry weight and should be compared with rivals using the same definition.
Seat height is useful for an initial shortlist, but it does not determine whether every rider will be comfortable. Seat width, suspension movement, footwear and individual proportions affect reach to the ground. The two alternative seat heights are optional global configurations, rather than a promise of standard equipment on every Indian version.
Four equipment versions: check what is included
| Version | Key published equipment distinction |
|---|---|
| Base | Cosmic Black finish and standard equipment |
| Exclusive | Shift Assistant Pro and sports suspension |
| M Sport | White M colour scheme, Riding Modes Pro, Shift Assistant Pro and sports suspension |
| M Sport Innovation | M Sport equipment with Easy Ride Clutch fitted at the factory |
Standard systems listed for the model include ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control and engine drag-torque control. Rain, Road and Dynamic riding modes are also listed, alongside a 6.5-inch TFT display. These global feature descriptions do not establish which versions, optional packages or colour choices will be offered in India.

What Easy Ride Clutch means
The Easy Ride Clutch, or ERC, uses centrifugal clutch operation to simplify clutch engagement. Its availability should be checked separately from Shift Assistant Pro. The latter assists gear changes, while ERC concerns clutch operation; the equipment descriptions should not be compressed into an unsupported claim that every version is a fully automatic motorcycle.
BMW says ERC can be retrofitted to the other versions. That global retrofit statement does not confirm an Indian accessory price, labour charge or local availability. A buyer interested in the system should ask for the complete configuration and operating explanation when local details become available.
Fuel range and brakes
BMW quotes fuel consumption of 3.8 litres per 100 km and a range above 350 km. These are manufacturer figures, rather than independent Indian road-test results. Traffic, riding style, load and conditions can change actual fuel use, so the quoted range should not become a guaranteed distance between fuel stops.
The braking specification lists a 310 mm front disc with a four-piston Brembo caliper and a 240 mm rear disc with a single-piston ByBre caliper. Component specifications describe the hardware; they do not provide an independently measured stopping distance.
What Indian buyers should wait for
Before making a purchase decision, wait for the local ex-showroom price, available versions, equipment list and delivery schedule. Compare a written on-road quotation and confirm service, warranty and accessory support. A global reveal and reported future launch timing are different levels of certainty.
