Yamaha WR155 Dual Sport Motorcycle in the Making

After the recent unveiling of the XSR155 retro bike, the brand has started to focus on bringing in the all-new Yamaha WR155 dual-sport motorcycle that will be essentially based on the underpinnings of the YZF-R15 V3. The brand is likely to equip the motorcycle with their famous delta box frame while one can expect certain revisions to the subframe considering the dual purpose character. Yamaha has been known to offer dual-purpose motorcycles under its WR series while the patent for the “WR155” has already been issued to the brand in Indonesia. Getting the same design language as that of its WR series, the Yamaha WR155 will feature an upswept exhaust system while carrying a motocross seat setup. In addition to a higher mudguard, the brand will be equipping the motorcycle with LED headlight and taillight. The off-roading capabilities of the motorcycle will be accentuated by a lean fuel tank and a larger wheel at the front with 21-inches diameter. The brand will be equipping the motorcycle with an increased seat height, which is required due to more ground clearance though, the lean and higher saddle will cause trouble for riders of short height. The motorcycle will be legal to ride on the regular streets as the brand will be equipping the WR155 with rearview mirrors and tail light. Powering the Yamaha WR155 will be the same 155cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 4-valve engine that does duty on the R15 V3, MT-15 and the XSR155. The engine is capable of generating maximum power of 19.3HP at 10,000 rpm and a peak torque of 14.7 Nm at 8,500 rpm. The brand might offer tweaked gear ratios with the WR155 considering its off-roading and dual-purpose capabilities. The braking duties will be handled by disc brakes at either end while the brand will be equipping the motorcycle with switchable ABS. The Yamaha WR155 is expected to be launched in the South-East Asian markets by the year 2020. The Indian roads are highly unlikely to get the dual-purpose motorcycle considering its lesser demand in the industry.
