5 Reasons to Choose Tata Nexon CNG Over Maruti Brezza CNG

The Tata Nexon received a significant facelift in September 2023, featuring a refreshed appearance, new features, and the option of a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with its turbo-petrol engine. Another major update for the Nexon is on the horizon with the introduction of a CNG powertrain. Tata confirmed this development by unveiling a concept form at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo revealing some key details about the upcoming CNG variant. Here are five areas where the CNG version of the Nexon could outshine its direct competitor, the Maruti Brezza CNG.

Distinctive Design

Elements While the Maruti Brezza boasts a strong and mature design, the Nexon distinguishes itself with more stylish elements. These include new LED DRLs, aerodynamically styled alloy wheels, and a sporty silhouette accentuated by a sloped roofline. On the other hand, the Brezza sports a more conventional design that gives it the look of a boxy SUV.

Enhanced Features, Including Larger Infotainment

The top-spec Tata Nexon CNG variant could offer features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, and a single-pane sunroof. Safety is also expected to be a priority, with six airbags as standard and a 360-degree camera. However, the Brezza CNG has a single-pane sunroof, a 6-speaker Arkamys sound system, and a smaller 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system for enhanced convenience. Safety features include dual front airbags and a rear parking camera.

Twin-Cylinder Technology

Similar to other Tata CNG vehicles, the Nexon CNG will feature twin-cylinder technology, utilizing two smaller CNG cylinders instead of one large cylinder. These cylinders are positioned under the boot bed, allowing the spare wheel to be relocated beneath the body of the Nexon and accessible from the exterior. This configuration provides a usable boot space of 230 litres inside the Nexon CNG. In contrast, the Brezza features a single CNG cylinder placed inside the boot, occupying most of the boot space.

Turbocharged Petrol-CNG Engine

The Tata Nexon CNG will be the first CNG offering in India to feature a turbocharged petrol engine. While the power figures are yet to be announced, it is expected to offer more power than the Brezza CNG. In its petrol form, the Tata 1.2-litre turbo unit produces 120 PS and 170 Nm of torque. In comparison, the Brezza CNG utilizes a non-turbo 1.5-litre petrol-CNG powertrain, delivering 87.8 PS and 121.5 Nm of torque (in CNG mode). The Nexon CNG is also expected to feature the direct start in the CNG mode function, which is not available in the Brezza CNG.

Option of CNG Automatic

The Nexon CNG could be the first CNG subcompact SUV in India to offer an AMT (automatic) transmission option. Tata recently introduced the option of an AMT transmission with a CNG powertrain in the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor. In contrast, the Brezza CNG is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission, with no indication of Maruti introducing a CNG-automatic option.

Expected Pricing

The Tata Nexon CNG is expected to be priced at a premium of up to Rs 1 lakh over its corresponding regular petrol variants. The Nexon's turbo-petrol variants are currently priced from Rs 8.15 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). In comparison, the Maruti Brezza CNG is priced between Rs 9.29 lakh and Rs 12.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
