Triumph and Bajaj have launched the Speed 400, a bike priced close to the Royal Enfield Classic 350 but with more tech, power, and torque. The Hunter 350 Retro is Rs 83,000 less expensive than the X400. So, the rumoured Triumph Roadster 250 and Scrambler 250 could enter the sub-2 lakh segment to counter this.
Triumph's website has revealed possible names for two new 250cc motorcycles: Roadster 250 and Scrambler 250. The information was found in the "choose model" option in Triumph's official contact form. The website also shows the Trident, Triumph's most affordable three-cylinder motorcycle, along with the Scrambler 400, which is set to launch later this year. This suggests that Triumph is working on a 250cc motorcycle platform, which would be a welcome addition to the Indian market.
The bikes are expected to be powered by a single-cylinder engine that produces about 30 bhp of power and 25 Nm of torque. This is slightly less power and torque than the Speed 400, which is powered by a 400cc parallel-twin engine. Some of the recent reports also suggest that the upcoming 250cc Triumph bikes could be based on the Bajaj Dominar 250 or the KTM Duke 250.
The upcoming bikes are likely to have similar styling and componentry to their respective bigger siblings. This means that they will have a DOHC setup with 4 valves per cylinder and liquid cooling. They may also have a slipper clutch and ride-by-wire, as well as a 6-speed gearbox. The 250cc scrambler and roadster are expected to weigh around 160 kg.
To keep costs in check, Triumph is likely to use the same chassis, body panels, and other hardware for both bikes. This means that they will have RSU telescopic front forks instead of 43mm USD telescopic forks. Both bikes will also include all-around LED lighting, a 140-section rear tyre, and a semi-digital instrument cluster.
The bikes are expected to be priced around Rs 1.70 lakh, which would make them a good value for money. Triumph has not revealed a launch timeline for the Scrambler 250 and Roadster 250, but they could be launched in the Indian markets in 2024.
