Absolutely worth it! And the YZF R125 was my first bike and I couldn't have asked for a better learning platform. For newbies, it’s forgiving enough, but it still has enough pep to keep it interesting. It also looks like a proper sportbike, which is a big confidence boost when you start out.

I would say it’s overpriced for what it is, eh. You're paying a premium for the Yamaha name and for sportbike looks. For the same money you could get a used 250 or 300 and have a bike you won't outgrow in a few months.

It depends on your goals. If you are going to stick with a 125 for a while due to license restrictions or insurance costs, then, yeah, it’s a good choice. If you can move up to a bigger bike soon though, you might be better off with something cheaper to learn on.

I have done a 300 mile round trip on my R125 and although it wasn't the most comfortable ride ever, it was absolutely doable. If you can’t keep up with the bigger bikes on the highway, just plan for more frequent stops.

Long distance on a 125? No way. To maintain highway speeds, you'll wring its neck. It's just a city bike. Beyond that is just torturing yourself and the poor little engine.

It can take long rides, but you need to adjust the expectation. It's not going to be as easy of a touring bike, but with some planning and patience, then you can certainly take it on adventures.

I think it depends on the rider. It may be more capable on long rides if you’re smaller and lighter. If you're a bigger person, however, you'll probably feel cramped and underpowered pretty quickly.

It's all about mindset. Is it the perfect long distance bike? No. If you’re determined, can you make it work? Absolutely. People have toured on scooters so an R125 is most definitely capable if you're brave enough.
