Bad idea. You’ll even learn much faster on a smaller, lighter bike even if you can handle it. Wait until you have a little mileage on the Fazer8.

It's not ideal, but it's possible. Good riding course, lots of practice in empty lots, and always wear full gear. If you’re smart about it, you can make it work.

If you really want it, I’d say go for it. Just don't try to show off the power, just respect it. If done right, the Fazer8 can be a great learning platform.

The Goldilocks bike is the Fazer8 – not too small, not too big. It has more grunt than an FZ6, but is more manageable than an FZ1.

I honestly think the FZ6 is the better all rounder. There's not enough of an upgrade to make the Fazer8 worth existing.

The engine in the Fazer8 is smoother than either the FZ6 or FZ1. It's beautiful to ride—linear power delivery that you can ride in the city and it's great for highway cruising.

I went from a FZ6 to a Fazer 8 and it was a nice step up. Power when you need it, but still easy to ride day to day.

I think Yamaha blew it with the Fazer8. The FZ6 isn't as sporty, the FZ1 not as powerful. It's stuck in no man's land.

The Fazer8 is an FZ1 with a reduced bore. It’s the FZ1 with most of the good bits but in a more manageable package.

The FZ6 is still the sweet spot for me. The Fazer8 is nice, but it’s heavier and won’t give you enough extra performance to justify the upgrade.

The problem I've seen the most with is the stator. The whole assembly can be torn up because the magnets can come loose. That's definitely something to watch.

The stock suspension is pretty underwhelming if you’re a heavier rider. Upgrading the internals of the shock and fork is a huge difference.

And I’ve heard some complains about fueling problems, mostly at low speeds. It's jerky in stop and go traffic, some people say.

The stock seat is not a comfortable thing for long rides. Most owners wind up getting an aftermarket seat or having it rebuilt.

Honestly, these are pretty bulletproof bikes. The vast majority of the issues are minor and easy to fix. Not like the problems you see with other brands.

Watch the cam chain tensioner. This isn't a common failure point, but when it does go, it can really do some damage.
