If you do oil changes and valve checks these things will run forever.

Absolutely not. If you are a beginner, the MT 09 has way too much power. You first need to learn how to properly control the throttle and move your body on something smaller.

I began on an MT 09 and I was fine, but I’m probably the exception. It definitely needs a little extra caution and taking it slow at first.

No way. The MT-09's power delivery is twitchy enough that even experienced riders can't help but be thrown a bit. It was easy for a new rider to get in over their head.

It depends on the person. If you have dirt bike experience or good mechanical sympathy you could probably get away with it. For most people, it’s too much bike to begin with.

There is always a compromise with stock suspension. If you’re serious about performance, you will want to upgrade regardless of the bike.

I ride heavier and the stock setup was way too soft. A world of difference was made with an aftermarket rear shock.

They exaggerate the problems. It's more than adequate for street use, but set it up properly for your weight.

If you’re going to throw down your coin, the SP model with the Öhlins suspension is worth it every penny. Night and day difference.

Yamaha, I think, deliberately left room for improvement. This allows people to customize to what they want and keeps the base price down.

It's not great for track use even with the improvements, but with some tweaks it would be fine. It's totally fine for daily riding though.

If you have ambitions of tracking or touring get the MT-10. MT-10 is a more versatile platform that can be set up for touring cross country or stripped down and tear up the track. MT-09 is really meant for neither of those things (SP version is better suited for track) and is a great hooning and commuting bike.
