With hybrid hypercars now the flavor of the day, is the Apollo IE's naturally aspirated V12 passé?

With one of only two naturally aspirated, naturally as we all know, meaning loud, V12s left in the high performance automobile world, the Apollo IE wears its heart on its sleeve. The IE's conventional engine setup separates it from the majority of manufacturers who are making the shift to hybrid or all electric powertrains for their flagship models. But this choice brings into question the future of naturally aspirated engines in hypercars, and whether they can still cut it amid the more modern, electrified powertrains of the competition in terms of performance and efficiency. It also feeds into the ongoing split between the power, quick revving, raw emotion of a high revving naturally aspirated engine liberally gifting you chunks of torque at just the right times and hybrid systems that offer instant and potentially higher outputs if not in the case of turbo hybrids. The conversation also delves into what value having this 'old school' approach brings to the car, if it's even helping move the hypercar segment forward at all.

It would have been at least nice if they offered a hybrid option. I feel this is a missed opportunity.

Numbers don’t matter—they are outdated only if you care about them. The IE is an emotional product and for that, the V12 delivers in spades.

I think it's a mistake. By not believing in new technology, they are limiting the car’s potential.

However, it's good to see a company go against the hybrid grain. Not all things have to be electrified.

Outdated? Maybe. In many cases, the old ways are best ways, especially for cars that are built for the track.

In today’s market, it’s a bold one. I give them credit for sticking to what they believe is the purist way.

Who cares if it's outdated? The thing is it’s all about the driving experience and there’s nothing like a high revving V12.

It's definitely outdated. Since hybrid systems have better performance and efficiency. Apollo missed out on this boating.

Not at all. They can’t beat the sound and response of a NA V12. A dying breed is one that needs to be celebrated.
