With diesel MPVs, how does the Invicto's hybrid system stack up for long distance fuel efficiency and performance?
The Invicto has a strong hybrid powertrain, a first for MPV segment in India, which is a departure from the diesel powered engines that have dominated the segment so far. But this shift also begs the question of its real world efficiency, especially on long highway drives where diesel engines are often the kings. Enthusiasts and potential buyers are looking to see how the hybrid system performs in city traffic, highway cruising, and fully loaded. In addition, the long term reliability and maintenance cost of the hybrid system versus conventional diesel engines is of interest. The discussion often goes on to the environmental effect and the fate of hybrid technology in the Indian market.
I drove both and to be honest, the Invicto’s hybrid system is impressive. Diesel is smoother than a diesel and fuel efficient, if not more so, especially in the city. It may not have the range of a diesel on highways, but the difference is not great.
