Will the typical SUV buyer find Nexon CNG to be sufficient?

SUV buyers care a lot about performance. When overtaking on highways or going uphill, that oomph is exactly what they want when they press the accelerator. Petrol and diesel avaatars of Nexon have built up a reputation to be peppy and fun to drive. Much curiosity is contained now in terms of how the CNG version will measure up. An oft overlooked fact is that CNG cars are perceived, wrongly or right, to be less powerful and less responsive than petrol cars. The big question here then is if the Nexon can do away with this stereotype entirely. Will it have the grunt that those that come to expect from any production bearing the Nexon name? Will it be too power hungry, even sluggish to drive, especially with a flat load of passengers and bags? For lots of flip–flop prospective buyers, this could very easily be a make or break issue.

CNG cars just feel underpowered no way. CNG as a fuel just doesn't deliver that instant torque that SUV buyers are demanding. Sure for city... On highways or hills? Forget about it.

I think people'll be surprised. Now Tata’s engineers are pretty clever and they wouldn’t release it unless it was a slouch. It probably won't be as zippy as its petrol sibling, but I'd bet that for most drivers it'll be ample.

So as long as it is chucking along with traffic and makes the occasional trip to the highway, it'll be fine. Anyway, most SUV buyers in India are more concerned with looks and features than outright performance, anyway.

I’ve driven CNG cars before, and they really aren’t that bad—people make them out to be worse than they are. There is a minute about power loss but it is so little in the way you drive the car daily. Most buyers will be perfectly happy with the Nexon CNG, I think.

It's all about expectations. If you’re moving from a petrol Nexon, though, you might be disappointed. If you are upgrading from a smaller CNG hatchback, it will probably feel great. It's all relative.

Fully loaded with AC on will really test it. Most often, CNG cars are struggling then. If it can deal with that and not feel like a slug, then Tata's on to a winner.

Most of the SUVs in India don’t see the more challenging terrain beyond a speed bump, let’s be real. For the average urban commuter, most of you should have no gripe with the Nexon CNG.
