Will the Staria be ahead of the trend (and thus long lived) or will it be out of fashion in a few years' time?
The design of the Hyundai Staria is unquestionably modern and futuristic, unlike anything we’ve seen in the automotive world today. Sometimes, however, bold and innovative designs age poorly, and can look dated or even silly after only a few years. It’s especially true for vehicles that rely heavily on current design trends or attempt to predict future aesthetics. Certainly the Staria's spaceship like appearance and distinctiveness such as its full width LED light bar and its big windows are striking now, but there is a debate about how they will be perceived in five or ten years. There are those who say that really forward thinking design becomes timeless, and those who argue that more conservative styling tends to age better. But there's also the question of how the Staria's design will play with itself as other automakers also begin to move towards more futuristic designs.
I think it'll go down like fine wine. It’s so far into the future that it’ll still seem avant garde in a few years.
Nah, it'll look dated fast. Do you remember how fast those futuristic designs from the early 2000s became cheesy?
That depends on how car design trends progress. If other brands do the same, it could stay fresh. Otherwise, it might look like some weird outlier.
It might age ok as overall shape, but I'm sure some of the details like the light bar will look dated very quickly.
I think it'll be a love it or hate it design that'll never really go out of style. It'll always have its fans.
This will probably look dated in a few years, but then come back into fashion in about 20 years as a retro futurist classic.
It is a pretty timeless basic shape. It's just a sleek box. I'm sure it will age better than people think.
