Will the lack of storage space of the Honda QC1 be a deal breaker for prospective buyers?
Perhaps the most talked-about aspect of the Honda QC1 Electric is its low storage capacity. While unlike its ICE counterpart, the Activa, which is famed for its spacious underseat storage, the QC1 loses most of this space to make room for its battery pack. As a result, there has been talk about how such scooters (or even their diminutive relatives) are impractical for everyday use, particularly among those who use their scooters for things like errands to the grocery store or for carrying work stuff. This compromise, say some, is necessary for the transition to electric; others say it's a giant step backwards in terms of utility. It also extends to whether Honda should have investigated alternative battery placement strategies and/or whether accessories should be offered as substitutes for the lost storage. This also brings up the broader challenges for designing electric scooters that will be as practical as the petrol-powered ones.
Absolutely. Daily commuters need storage space. This is a massive fail on the part of Honda.
I don’t think it’s ideal, but people will adapt. Loss of some storage space is a small price to pay for the benefits of going electric.
Honda should've designed it better. Batteries aside, other e-scooters do a decent job of offering storage.
It's a trade-off. You lose some convenience, but you get cleaner commutes. But I think most buyers will be OK with that.
Deal-breaker for sure. Why do I need a scooter if I can't even carry my grocery bags?
Y'all are overreacting. All you need is a small backpack or front basket. Problem solved.
It's not just about storage. This demonstrates that Honda didn't really consider the practicalities of day-to-day use.
Firstly, I think it will affect sales, but people will get used to it. Do you remember when we believed that smartphones were too big for pockets?
Accessories like top boxes might be released to compensate, Honda. It's not great, but it works.
It could actually be a good thing. Perhaps it will make people reconsider how much stuff they really need to lug around.
