Will the Himalayan 650 eat into sales of the Interceptor and Continental GT?
Now that Royal Enfield has expanded their 650cc lineup, there are fears of model overlap. The mid size segment, the Interceptor and Continental GT have been successful with their retro styling and modern performance. With Himalayan 650 on the horizon some wonder if it may be eating into the sales of 650 siblings. A more powerful Himalayan would make sense in an adventure touring market that is growing and could appeal to riders who considered the 650 twins but wanted something more versatile. In contrast, the bikes are designed for different things – the twins are more road focused, the Himalayan is more mixed terrain. This raises questions about Royal Enfield's strategy: Are they trying to target different customer segment within 650cc market or are their own products going to compete with each other?
I don't think it's gonna be a big thing. The Himalayan 650 will be for adventure touring, and the Interceptor and Continental GT are more road focused bikes. It’s different strokes for different folks.
