Will the Bobber 838 cut into sales of the 650 twins?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
The Royal Enfield 650 twins (Interceptor and Continental GT) have been a massive success for the brand, delivering accessible performance and classic styling for a price that is very competitive. With the introduction of the more powerful and premium Bobber 838, there’s talk about how it will affect the existing lineup. Will the Bobber find a new market segment, or will it court the potential 650 buyer to spend a little more? It's not just that, but also the question of brand identity, with moving upmarket a risk of alienating RE's core fanbase. But could the Bobber actually help sell more 650s by generally increasing the brand's profile? Royal Enfield has a fine line to walk as they grow their range and go after new customers.

RE needs to evolve, but it’s a risk. It opens up new markets for them.

The question is, can RE produce both? And their QC is already questionable.

They'll coexist just fine. Harley sells Sportsters and big twins without problems.

Smart move by RE. The 838 is something to aspire to without leaving the brand for its 650 owners.

They’re shooting themselves in the foot. Why mess with a good thing? The 650s are perfect.

In fact, it may increase 650 sales. When people see the price difference between the Bobber and the Interceptor, they will come for the Bobber and leave with an Interceptor.

No, totally different markets. The 650s are for beginners and the 838 is for those riders looking to upgrade.
