Will the adoption of the Creta EV be helped or hindered by its familiar design?

Hyundai Creta EV shares design with the ICE counterpart, only a few changes are made to indicate that it’s an electric vehicle. It is different from some other manufacturers who have chosen more distinctive or futuristic designs for their EVs. But the familiar design could be construed as a move to conform to what existing Creta fans and those who prefer a more conventional look might expect. For some buyers, it might make the transition to electric not seem so daunting. But some say that a more radical design could have helped the Creta EV to stand out in a crowding market and attract early adopters who want their EV to be looked distinctly different. But there’s also the matter of aerodynamics — the Creta EV does have aero bits like active air flaps, but it’s still an SUV — and, in general, not the most aerodynamic thing. This could give us the range hit and hit the efficiency. Moreover, the design approach could affect the meaning of technology and innovation as perceived by users. Will the Creta EV’s familiar design help it gain more appeal and drive faster EV adoption or will it be deemed a lost chance to make a bold statement in the electric vehicle market?

I fear the SUV shape will hurt efficiency. They should have designed them to be more aerodynamic to get the most range. In an EV, that's more important than the fact that it looks like a traditional Creta.

It turns out, the subtle design changes are pretty clever. It’s not so different that it’ll scare people off, but it’s different enough that you’ll notice. It's a good balance.

That probably helped keep costs down from a practical standpoint. If that means a lower price point that could be a big win for the consumer.

I'm torn on this. I know the appeal of a familiar design, but part of the fun of having an EV is that it feels futuristic. It just seems a little boring, right?

The adoption will definitely benefit from the familiarity of the design. This makes the switch to electric less scary for people on the fence. The Creta is already popular, so why mess with a winning formula, plus?

It's a missed opportunity. The design should be the future, EVs. It just seems like they threw a battery in a normal Creta and said done.

I am positive that the familiar design is smart. Not everyone is looking for a spaceship looking car. That way, Hyundai can entice EV enthusiasts as well as regular Creta fans who wonder what it would be like to go electric.
