Why is there so much hate for Hummer H2 owners?
There may be love or hate for the Hummer H2. People tend to stereotype owners as being too flashy, too environmentally irresponsible, or compensating for something. But enthusiast types laud the H2 as an American automotive icon, an icon of capability. Related to this polarization, there has been great debate over consumerism, environmental impact, and personal choice of vehicle. Why do the H2 and its owners inspire such passion from the public? Let’s find out.
I think it's mostly jealousy. Some people just can't handle a big, bold vehicle that gets attention, and the H2 is just that.
As an H2 owner, I get it. They're not the most practical or efficient vehicle but that's not why we buy them. It’s the experience and the statement.
The H2 takes on strong opinions because it’s a symbol of excess during a time when people were becoming more environmentally conscious. It’s a clash of values.
H2 owners are judged by people who do not know them. I don't cruise around town to show off, I use mine for off roading and towing.
The hate is overblown. Yeah, it’s not the most efficient vehicle, but there are lots of trucks and SUVs that are just as bad. The H2 just stands out more.
I know this because I was once a H2 owner, and the attention gets old fast. You’re always defending your choice of vehicle because people either love it or hate it.
