The type of fuel a vehicle can use depends on its engine and design. Here are the main types of fuels and the vehicles they are suitable for:

**Gasoline**: Regular , mid-grade , and premium gasoline are suitable for most gasoline-powered vehicles. High-performance vehicles may require premium gas due to their higher compression ratios[5).

**Diesel**: Diesel fuel is used in diesel engines, which are more efficient and provide greater torque. It is commonly used in heavy-duty vehicles, trucks, and vans[5).

**Ethanol Blends**: E10 is widely used and suitable for most vehicles. E15 can be used in vehicles built in 2002 or newer. E85 is only for Flex Fuel Vehicles specifically designed to run on this blend[5).

**Compressed Natural Gas **: CNG can be used in vehicles with converted gas engines or those specifically designed for CNG, offering lower emissions but limited driving range[3).

**Biodiesel**: Biodiesel can be used in diesel vehicles, with low percentages not requiring engine modifications. Higher percentages may need modifications[3).

**Propane**: Propane, or liquified petroleum gas , is used in vehicles that have been converted to run on propane, which is more common in foreign countries[3).

**Electricity**: Electricity powers electric vehicles, including all-electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which are designed specifically for this fuel source[3).

**Hydrogen**: Hydrogen is used in fuel cell electric vehicles, which are designed to run on hydrogen and produce only water and heat as emissions[3).
