For riders who may be looking at a 125cc bike to commute on or to start their motorcycle riding career, fuel efficiency is of great importance. With a performance-oriented design, the KTM Duke 125 might be expected to show some difference in fuel consumption compared to more conservative 125cc models. Riding style and real-world mpg figures are often discussed, as are the Duke 125’s fuel economy and whether or not the premium price tag is justified. It’s also interesting to see how it compares to scooters and other brands in the same class. We will take a look at mileage data and experiences in riding the Duke 125 in different riding conditions and compare it to its competition.

For a 125, it's pretty thirsty in my experience. If I'm gentle, I get about 80 mpg, but if I ride it hard, it drops to 65 mpg or less.

The Duke uses noticeably more fuel than my friend’s Honda CB125R. It's more fun to ride, but I think that's a fair trade-off.

But if you stay under 55 mph, I’ve found it’s pretty efficient. It is when you push it to higher speeds that you see the consumption really go up.

I think it does well enough for a performance-oriented bike. Something sporty can’t expect scooter-level efficiency.

Fuel efficiency is decent, but the small tank means you'll be filling up more than you'd think. On longer trips it's a bit annoying.

In mixed riding I get about 90 mpg, which I think is pretty good. All it is, is how you ride it; smooth inputs make a big difference.

I was disappointed by the fuel economy of the Duke coming from a 50cc scooter. I got over it because then I realized I was having way more fun.
