When it comes to the Bajaj Pulsar SS400, is all the hype around it justified?
Absolutely worth it! What the Indian market needs is a homegrown supersport that is affordable and can compete with KTM and Honda, and the SS400 is exactly that. This one is the first step up from Bajaj.
Overhyped, if you ask me. Bajaj is no expert when it comes to high performance machines, but commuter bikes. Rather than that, I would have preferred going for a proven bike like the KTM RC 390 or even saving up for a proper Japanese supersport.
It's a mixed bag. The specs seem promising and the styling is spot on but I have no confidence about Bajaj's quality control. With a good fit and finish, they could could have a winner.
Worth the hype? Maybe. Worth waiting for? Definitely. Worse case scenario, the SS400 isn’t great – for the most, the SS400 may even be to other manufacturers to raise the bar in the 400cc segment. We riders always benefit from competition.
I think that people are setting their expectations too high. I expect it’ll be a nice bike, but it’s not going to change the industry. End of the day, still a Bajaj.
Given that it is Bajaj’s first serious attempt at a full faired sports bike, the hype is justified. It might not be perfect, but it will help open the way for better Indian supersports in the future.
I'm cautiously optimistic. However, if Bajaj does price it right and offers good service support, the SS400 could be a game changer in the budget motorcycle enthusiast category.
