What would you want to see on the KTM 490 Adventure to make it unique?

With so many adventure bike manufacturers out there, they all need to stand out from the crowd and provide something unique or have something unique to back it. That’s important for a bike like the KTM 490 Adventure, which would be in a fiercely contested middleweight category. This question makes riders think about what innovations or what characteristics would make the 490 Adventure a must-have bike. Topics could include advanced electronics and rider aids or unique design elements or specialized off-road features. There are those who would argue for more traditional adventure bike attributes and others who would fight for cutting-edge tech. The debate tends to reflect broader trends in the motorcycle industry, from the growing role of electronics to the balance between on-road comfort and off-road capability, or the changing expectations of adventure riders. Through this conversation, we can learn more about what riders value most and what they think is missing from the current offerings in the market.

Why not a user-programmable riding mode? Riders can fine-tune the bike to how they like it.

I would like to see some integrated luggage mounts. Easy to attach bags without ugly brackets all over the bike.

Put a 21-inch front wheel on it. Most bikes in this class are 19, but a 21 would make it so much more capable off-road.

It would be awesome to have a bi-directional quickshifter as standard. Although not common in this class, if it had it, it would make the bike feel very premium.

I’d like to see some serious underbody protection straight from the factory. It’s ready for rough terrain without requiring a bunch of extras.

A built-in tire pressure monitoring system? That would be super useful for adventure riding.

Ergonomics and an adjustable windscreen would be great. No aftermarket parts needed; make it comfortable for short and tall riders.

I would really like to see a more sophisticated traction control system that still allows you to go as hard as possible off-road but does not interfere too much.
