What will the Mahindra BE.07's all wheel drive option do differently than a traditional 4x4 system?
In addition to the BE.07 being available with all wheel drive (AWD), the electric motors will be used to power all four wheels. It's a big departure from Mahindra's traditional mechanical 4x4 systems seen in the Thar and Scorpio. Instant torque distribution and fine tuned control is what electric AWD systems have to offer, but these come at the cost of off road capability and reliability in harsh conditions. The BE.07 has an AWD system, and enthusiasts will be watching how Mahindra does in the off road community (the company has some street cred there). But will the electric AWD system be able to hold up to the ruggedness and reliability of regular 4x4? Does that mean it can offer the same level of control and performance in a very challenging off road situation? Or, will it prove more capable in some way, and perhaps change the idea that electric vehicles in the off road scene are incapable?
Electric AWD is the future. It will be way more capable than old school 4x4s because of instant torque at each wheel.
