What will the ape hanger handlebars on the Goan Classic 350 do for long distance riding comfort?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
Royal Enfield has introduced ape hanger handlebars to the lineup of its Royal Enfield Classic 350, which changes the riding position of this bike drastically from the standard Classic 350. This change in ergonomics brings up the question of comfort, especially if you like to get on the bike for long rides. Ape hangers are great for their distinct look, but they can also cause fatigue, increased wind resistance and decreased control of the motorcycle. Ape hangers make for great comfort on the highway for some riders, or are too tiring to ride for long periods for others. The debate continues on how this new riding position affects the bike’s handling characteristics and whether it adds or takes away from the Classic 350’s versatility as a do it all motorcycle. In this scenario, we wanted to test if the community questions the practicality of this design choice in various riding situations.

The ape hangers might actually make for a more comfortable ride on bumpy roads. It's also nice on India's varied road conditions, as your arms act as natural shock absorbers in that position.

That is going to make the bike more comfortable in city traffic. A big plus for urban riding is being able to sit upright and see over cars.

Most Goan Classic buyers aren’t going to be doing cross country tours. Let’s be real. For the casual weekend rider, those ape hangers will be more than comfortable and help to enhance the overall experience.

I think it'll be fine for moderate distances, but anything over a couple of hours is going to wear me out. That means the key will be to find the right balance between style and practicality.

It’s going to be one of those love it or hate it things. The upright position is more comfortable for long rides for some people, while other people will miss the more tucked in position of the standard bars.

Big time there's going to be suffering with long distance comfort. High bars may look cool, but they will turn you into a sail at highway speeds. It's going to be a real issue for wind fatigue.

If you've ridden bikes with ape hangers before, I can say that they're not as bad as you might think for cruising. It also takes pressure off your lower back and your arms are relaxed.
