What will be the right price point for the Avenger 400 if Bajaj launches it?
Pricing is a make or break factor in the Indian motorcycle market. For a potential Bajaj Avenger 400, the pricing strategy would need to balance several factors: Development and production cost, perceived value of the Bajaj brand in the cruiser segment and prices of competing models from other manufacturers. It would also have to factor in the price points of Bajaj's current models to keep a cohesive line up. It's no surprise that the Indian consumer is price sensitive and so striking the right balance between features, performance and cost would be critical for the Avenger 400's market acceptance and success.
Under 2.5 lakh would be a steal. To make a real impact, it has to undercut the RE Interceptor 650.
I feel 2.2-2.3 lakh is the sweet spot. Premium enough to feel high, but low enough that the average buyer looking to upgrade can afford it.
To really shake up the market, they should price it aggressively at 1.9 – 2 lakh. The manufacturing scale is on Bajaj.
To make sense it has to be under 2 lakh. Beyond that and people will just save up for a 650cc bike.
So if they load it with features, I’d say 2.4 – 2.5 lakh is fair. If you do it right, people will pay for quality and technology.
They should price it high at the outset, as KTM did with the 390 Duke at around 2.6 lakh and then bring it down gradually. First create that premium image.
This would be too much if anything crossed 2.3 lakh. Remember, it’s still a Bajaj, not a premium brand like Triumph or KTM.
They can bring it in at 2.1-2.2 lakh and it will fly off the shelves. It's where people begin to think about upgrading from their 150 to 200cc bikes.
