What will be the Maruti NEXA Jimny EV’s weight distribution and center of gravity versus the petrol version and how will that affect its off road performance?

With the change from a traditional internal combustion engine to an electric powertrain comes the weight distribution and center of gravity changes due to the collection of power and braking sources in one location. Petrol Jimny is famous for being light weight and ideal weight distribution that helps it to have nimble off road performance. Of course, adding heavy battery packs to the EV version will inevitably make the vehicle heavier and, quite possibly, change the center of gravity. While this may have positive and negative effects on its off road capabilities. Weight might lower a center of gravity for better stability, but the weight itself could hamper agility, and lead to getting stuck in very soft terrain. How the vehicle handles in different off road situations will be determined greatly by the placement of the batteries within the chassis. The discussion is about whether the advantages of instant torque and better weight distribution from the EV powertrain can overcome the disadvantages of increased overall weight in off road.

The battery pack will also help to make it even more stable on side slopes due to the lower center of gravity. It's a win for off-roading!

That extra weight is going to make it sink in mud and sand. Key to the petrol version's off road prowess is its lightweight nature.

They could have evenly distributed the batteries for perfect 50/50 weight distribution. On technical trails how balanced would that be!

Any weight gain will be more than made up for with the instant torque from the electric motors. It’ll get itself out of anything.

Water crossings are a worry. It doesn't sound great for deep water all that electrical stuff under the floor.

There are even some cases where the extra weight would actually help out with traction. Not always bad, more weight pressing down on the tires.

They should have an option for removable battery. For hardcore off roading, take out some cells, for longer trips put them all in.
