What potential buyer should know about the FZ-07’s biggest weakness?

by Sukhmandeep Kaurover 1 year ago0 views9 comments
The Yamaha FZ-07 (MT-07) gets a lot of praise for its balance of performance, affordability and ease of use, but no motorcycle is perfect. People looking to buy a bike often want to know what the bike's shortcomings are to make a decision. Criticism of the FZ-07 ranges from the FZ-07's relative basic suspension, to the lack of wind protection for highway riding, to the stock tires, to the stock brakes. And there is the debate about whether its simplicity (no riding modes, no traction control, etc.) is a pro or a con. Many discussions surrounding the FZ-07’s weaknesses are quickly followed by conversations about aftermarket solutions, how these problems stack up against the competition in the same class, and whether or not they’re deal breakers or minor annoyances. This question helps prospective owners figure out what compromises they will be making and whether those will meet their riding priorities and budget.

I'd say the mirrors. With all the vibration, they're practically useless at highway speeds. Almost a necessity are bar end mirrors.

The stock tires are pretty sucky. For commuting they’re fine, but if you wanna have a bit of fun in the twisties you’ll want to upgrade pretty quick.

Its biggest weakness is that after a while you want more. You start wondering what a bigger bike would be like, because it's so good.

I really don't think there are any major weaknesses. It's a great all-rounder. Yes, you can nitpick, but for the price it's hard to beat.

The seat is the worst part. For short rides it's fine but anything over an hour and you'll be squirming. Almost a must are aftermarket seats.

The lack of electronic aids I'd say. Some riders may have an issue with no traction control or riding modes, particularly in the wet.

The stock brakes are pretty week. They're fine for normal riding but if you like to ride hard you'll want to upgrade the pads at least.

The biggest issue for me is lack of wind protection. Around town, it's fine, but on the highway you feel like a sail. It helps with a small screen, but it’s never going to be a tourer.

The suspension, hands down. This thing is way too soft for aggressive riding or heavier riders. If you want to push the bike hard, you’ll have to upgrade it.
