What kind of features and technology does the Exter have that future proof it?
With automotive technology making leaps and bounds, buyers are growing more and more concerned with how well their vehicle will last feature and tech wise. Hyundai Exter gets a host of modern features including a large touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology and even ADAS features in some markets. But with a budget car, there’s always the worry of how fast these features will go out of date. Then we get into discussions about how long the tech features of the Exter will last, if software updates are possible, and whether the car is interesting enough to be relevant for the next 5-7 years of ownership. And whether loading tech features into this segment is worth it or not, or if it's better to focus on core driving dynamics and reliability.
Tech wise, the Exter is pretty good for its segment. It’s large touchscreen and connected car features should keep it relevant for a while.
Things move fast in tech these days. Instead I’d focus more on the car’s fundamentals than gadgets that will seem old in a couple of years.
Hyundai is usually pretty good at doing software updates. The Exter should stay fresher longer than some competitors, I think.
Tech wise, the base variants are pretty bare bones. The cost of course is driven up because you need to go for higher trims to get the future proof features.
Things like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are nice to have, and should be useful for years.
I'm less worried about the short term, but I'm more concerned with the long term reliability of all these electronic features. The more tech you have, the more things that can go wrong.
Even with basic ADAS features, the Exter is a segment leader in this regard. That’s a big plus for future proofing.
