What is the difference between the Yamaha R6 and other 600cc supersports for street riding?
The 600cc supersport class is a highly competitive class as each manufacturer provides their interpretation of the formula. Opinions are divided as to how the Yamaha R6 matches up for everyday street use compared to the likes of the Honda CBR600RR, Kawasaki ZX-6R and Suzuki GSX R600 when it comes to everyday street use. Low end torque, comfort while riding long hours, the toughness of the fuel for miles and easy to ride in the city traffic are the factors to take care of. The R6's high revving nature is not exactly conducive to the street, some riders say, while others enjoy its raw sportbike feel even in urban environments. What's often debated is how much the R6's track focused design compromises street manners compared to its competitors.
Of the bunch, the R6 is the most track focused. Great if you want that raw feel, but other ones are more street friendly.
I have ridden all of them and the R6 feels the most special. It's not the easiest to live with, but it's the most rewarding.
The street ZX-6R has more low end torque. You need to rev the R6 out to really shine.
They're all pretty similar honestly. It's not very big a difference with the R6 being a bit more uncomfortable.
The CBR600RR is more balanced for street use. It's amazing, but you really don't need the R6 unless you're going to the track regularly.
I daily an R6 and love it. It’s not the most practical, but it makes every ride feel special.
It's easier to live with day to day. But the R6 is great, it’s just more of a weekend warrior bike.
