What is the difference between owning a Rapide and other Aston Martin models?
I've owned a Rapide and a DB9 and the Rapide is the more practical evolution. You have the same Aston Martin experience but you can actually use the back seats.
The Rapide is pretty much the same maintenance wise as other Astons. If you’re familiar with DB9 or DBS maintenance, then the V12 is a known quantity and you won’t be thrown any curveballs by the Rapide.
To me, the Rapide is more special as an Aston. You don’t see it too often on the roads, and everyone is always surprised to see the rear doors. It's a great conversation starter.
Driving the Rapide feels like it has lost the pure sports car feel of my old Vantage. You can feel the extra size and weight in tight corners, but it still handles well and is still fast.
For someone wanting the Aston experience but with more practicality, the Rapide is the perfect Aston. You have your cake and eat it too.
The fuel economy is one downside compared to other Astons. The V12 in the Rapide seems more thirsty, probably because it has more weight to lug around.
I like the fact that the Rapide doesn't give up the Aston Martin style. Other four door performance cars look awkward, but the Rapide is as beautiful as any other Aston.
