What is the Aftek Elmo like in wet conditions?
For many users, riding electric scooters in the rain or on wet roads is a huge concern. How does the Aftek Elmo’s water resistance translate to real world performance? Is there anything that sets it apart as better for wet weather riding than other e scooters? In what conditions should riders be taking precautions when using the Elmo? How does moisture affect over time the components and the battery life of the scooter? I had a chance to discuss experiences, tips and perhaps concerns with using the Aftek Elmo when the weather isn't cooperating.
I've taken my Elmo a few times in light rain and it's held up well. The stability on wet roads is definitely helped by the larger wheels. Just be careful with braking and cornering.
Personally, I do not ride any e-scooter when it is wet. It’s not worth the risk of hydroplaning or electrical issues. On rainy days, I prefer to just take public transit.
Elmo's water resistance is decently enough, but I do wipe the water off when I'm done with a wet ride. After a really rainy week there has been some rust on the screws but regular maintenance is key.
Mine has some aftermarket fenders on it which has made a huge difference in wet weather. It keeps the spray off me and the scooter. Recommend to any one who rides in rainy climates.
On wet surfaces, the Elmo’s regenerative braking is a little unpredictable. I’m prone to sketchy moments, so when it’s raining I rely more on the mechanical brakes.
So far I've caught some pretty heavy downpours with my Elmo, no electrical issues so far. But I always make sure it's dried completely before charging (just to be safe).
In wet conditions, the throttle response is a little more sensitive. Accelerating hard to avoid wheel spin taught me to be extra gentle.
Visibility is also something not to forget about! Elmo's lights are fine, but I added some reflective tape, and a bright jacket, just for rainy day rides. Safety first!
