Brake horsepower (bhp) is the measure of an engine's horsepower before the loss in power caused by the gearbox, alternator, differential, water pump and other auxiliary components. Power of vehicle tells that how much work you can do with that torque in a given time. Power produced by any engine is the capacity to take the vehicle to its maximum speed. The amount of power tells how fast work can be done. Newton meter (Nm) is a measure of torque generated by an engine. Torque is a measure of force available to accelerate the car and bike. It refers to pulling power of the engine of vehicles. Higher torque means more pull and more pull means more acceleration. Bikes that produce maximum torque at higher RPMs tend to be high-revving to get full power. The acceleration is less at higher speed as when you are at higher speeds, you are in the higher gear. The higher gear ratio reduces the torque available at the wheels in exchange for faster rotation speed. Power available will always be the same regardless of gear and only the speed and torque are affected by gearing. So, in simple words, BHP tell us the power and Nm tell us the torque of the vehicle.
