What impact would the TecPac subscription model have on resale value of Chetak?
The Bajaj Chetak Urbane's introduction on the TecPac subscription model invites us to question the long term value and resale prospects of the scooter. Whereas other traditional vehicle features are an integral part of the vehicle, the TecPac introduces a time limited nature to some of its functionalities. That would likely have repercussions for how the scooter is priced within the second hand market. While physical condition and mileage will likely be a part of any buyer’s consideration, they may need to factor in the state of the service’s TecPac subscription as well. Would an active TecPac Chetak be worth a lot more than one without? How will a subscription be transferred between owners? All these considerations make the already complex process of buying and selling used cars that much more complicated, especially in the fast moving electric scooter market.
It will tank the resale value, I think. Would anyone want to purchase a used scooter with locked features?
If the subscription is transferable it could actually improve resale value. Could be a selling point.
Resale value? In this economy? We’re all just trying to get from A to B, let’s be real.
Well I bet that’ll split the used market into premium (with active TecPac) and budget (without).
Used buyers are going to have a nightmare. "Oh, you didn't realise that feature was included?" That'll be extra."
Perhaps that’ll spawn a black market for hacked Chetaks, with unlocked features. Cyberpunk 2025, anyone?
I think it'll even out. More buyers might mean stable resale values, and lower upfront cost.
Selling these scooters is going to be a pain. Prepare for a lot of confused, angry second hand buyers.
