What features would you want if Bajaj made a 400cc version of the Pulsar 220F?
In the Indian market the Bajaj Pulsar 220F has been a popular sports tourer for a long time. The winning combination of semi-faired design, comfortable ergonomics and peppy performance has won many fans. But what if Bajaj made a bigger, more powerful version, a Pulsar 400F, if you will? We’d be competing in the middleweight segment, and against bikes such as the KTM 390 Duke and Honda CB300R. For that higher price point, it'd need to provide a substantive leap in performance and capabilities. But it also has to retain the practicality value for money proposition associated with the market position of the Pulsar brand. What do you think this Pulsar 400F would be if it was your dream bike, what kind of engine, chassis, electronics, and other features would you like to see? What would you want to change from the 220F, and what would you want to keep about the original?
I'd want a 400cc parallel twin engine with about 45 – 50 bhp. Retain the semi-faired design but with more aggressive styling. Add USD forks, dual channel ABS and a TFT display.
Be something simple and reliable as the 220F, but with modern touches. Maybe add traction control, LED lights all around and even a single cylinder 400cc engine. Just solid performance, don’t need fancy electronics.
Make it a proper tourer. Larger fuel tank, long ride comfortable seat, and built in luggage. Throw in a tall windscreen and cruise control for comfort on the highway.
I would like it to be a mini Hayabusa. Dressed in aerodynamic full fairing, powerful engine tuned for top speed and aggressive riding position. Sportbike styling is going all out.
Make it a tech showcase. Add ride-by-wire, different riding modes, smartphone connectivity, and maybe radar assisted cruise control. Show what Bajaj can do!
Modernize everything, but keep the spirit of the 220F. Powerful, yet fuel efficient engine; retro modern styling; good balance of features without going overboard on price.
Make it an adventure-tourer variant. It also has a higher ground clearance, long travel suspension, wire spoke wheels, and a more upright riding position. Perfect for exploring rough roads.
