What are the most common problems that owners have with the KTM 990 Super Duke R?
The KTM 990 Super Duke R is well known for its thrilling performance, as well as its character, but as with any motorcycle, it has its own quirks and potential problems. There are many things that owners of this model have discussed over the years, mechanical and maintenance issues included. These can be minor annoyances or more serious concerns that need a lot of attention. Knowing what these common issues are can be very important for possible buyers or current owners who want to keep their bikes in good shape. Here is the question in question: What is the real world of 990 Super Duke R owners and the problems you have with your machines?
The fuel pump is a notorious weak point. In 30,000 miles I have had to replace mine twice.
I have honestly not had any major issues with mine. It runs like a dream as long as it’s maintained regularly.
A plastic fuel tank may swell over time, which can cause fitment issues. It's not a cheap fix either.
It’s pretty common that electrical gremlins happen. The rectifier and stator have given me problems.
The clutch slave cylinder usually leaks. It’s annoying when it happens, but an easy fix.
I’ve heard of a few people having water pump problems, but I think that’s more common on the earlier models.
My biggest issue has been parts availability. The problem is that as these bikes age, OEM parts can be hard to find.
My rear tires burn like nobody’s business. It’s not really an issue, but it’s something to budget for.
