What are the long rides like with the Aprilia SR 160 Carbon?

Scooters are generally known for short urban commutes, but riders are curious how the SR 160 Carbon fares on longer trips. From its sporty design and wide smooth line to its powerful engine, it seems to be apt for extended rides, however, comfort, fuel efficiency and stability on a higher speed are all in question. Some owners have taken their SR 160 Carbons on weekend getaways or even longer tours, but others contend it's best used only in the city. The long distance riding potential of a scooter depends on many factors including seating position, wind protection, storage capacity and fuel tank size. It’s hard to say how well the SR 160 Carbon performs outside its comfort zone of urban streets and short trips when you’ve got conflicting experiences and opinions.

I did a 300km round trip on my SR 160 Carbon and it was surprisingly comfortable. The engine has enough grunt to freeway cruise, and the seat is firm, but supportive.

It's terrible for long rides. The suspension is so stiffly set up that you get beat up, then the small fuel tank necessitates stops. This one is good for city riding.

It is okay for medium distance rides but any distance over 200km is tiring. The biggest issue is that there isn't any wind protection – you are a sail at highway speeds.

I love it for long rides! The riding position is sporty and I am engaged and the handling instills confidence on twisty roads. Just plan your fuel stops and pack light.

It’s not ideal, but you can do it if you’re willing to make some modifications. A taller windscreen and gel seat cover will make you much more comfortable on longer journeys.

I wouldn't suggest you use it for long rides. After an hour or so the vibrations become annoying and the small wheels make you nervous on rough highways.

If you're used to sportier bikes, it's actually pretty good for long rides. It looks like it would be an uncomfortable seating position, but the performance makes the miles fly by and the seating position is completely comfy.
