We also look at if the Himalayan 450 is the one to take on established players such as the KTM 390 Adventure.

With bikes like the KTM 390 Adventure setting the bar high for performance, features, and value in the mid size segment, the adventure motorcycle market is becoming increasing competitive. Ambitiously, the new Himalayan 450 is attempting to muscle in on these established players. KTM has a long and well earned reputation in off road performance and has been refining its adventure bikes for years. Especially the 390 Adventure has been praised for its versatility and capability, both on and off roads. Although Royal Enfield enjoys a cult following, it is a newcomer to the modern adventure bike scene. The Himalayan 450 has more power, better suspension and more modern features than its predecessor, but it has some serious competition to contend with. The resulting debate has been around whether Royal Enfield can really deliver against this experience in the performance, reliability and package related terms of brand which have more experience in this segment.

They don't need to beat KTM, they just need to be good enough at a lower price.

RE's brand appeal is strong. Regardless of performance comparisons, it'll sell well.

The 450 looks more off road focused. In the dirt it might outpace the 390.

Adventure bikes are better with KTM's dealer network.

They're for different riders. KTM is more about speed, the Himalayan more about the journey.
