Was Discover 100T too early in the Indian market?
by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
When it was launched, the Bajaj Discover 100T brought in many features which were uncommon in the 100cc segment, like a 4 valve engine, monoshock front suspension and sporty styling. Others claim that these advances made it a pioneering product that represented the limits of what entry level bikes could deliver. Others think, however, that the Indian market wasn't ready for such a sophisticated 100cc bike, and they went for simpler, more affordably options instead. This is food for thought on the timing of innovation, market readiness, and if Bajaj's all in approach with the 100T had a hand in shaping the commuter segment in India.

This was the future. We see now 110-125cc bikes with similar features becoming popular.

Tech ahead of its time, but not behind the times in understanding the market. Classic engineering vs. marketing disconnect.

It was the right time, but Bajaj didn't make the move. Instead of letting it stagnate they should have evolved the platform.

That was ahead of its time, but that’s not always a good thing. But the market wasn’t willing to pay a premium for a high tech 100cc.

Kind of. I think the ideas were good, but the execution and timing were off. What it offered was simply too expensive.

No, it was to answer a question no one was asking. Most buyers of a 100cc just want simple, reliable transport.

Definitely! It proved that bikes with 100cc could be exciting. Everyone is trying to make their commuters sportier now.
