Used Maruti SHVS cars after 5.5 years: which battery, MGU and warranty checks matter?

Owners keeping an older Maruti Smart Hybrid and buyers considering a used SHVS car need to separate a specific diagnosis from broad online failure claims. Maruti Suzuki's current Service Activated Power Plus Warranty is available for eligible vehicles more than 5.5 years old after specified periodic services and Vehicle Health Card and diagnostic checks.

Older-SHVS evidence checklist

• Eligibility: confirm the VIN, model year, service history, Vehicle Health Card and written programme eligibility.
• Exclusions: the current programme excludes the petrol lithium-ion battery, Motor Generator Unit and SHVS belt. Ask for an itemised quotation separating the 12V battery, lithium-ion pack, MGU/ISG and belts.
• Diagnosis: a drained 12V battery does not identify the failed component. Request parasitic-draw and charging tests, diagnostic trouble codes and a written authorised-workshop finding.
• Used-car value: verify coverage certificates, previous electrical work, a second opinion and whether the price discount reflects uncovered repair exposure.

Community reports mention battery drain and expensive quotations, but they do not establish a universal failure age, replacement price or diagnosis across Ertiga, Ciaz, XL6 and other SHVS models. The 3-year/1,00,000 km standard warranty announced in July 2024 applies to vehicles delivered from 9 July 2024, so older cars require their own documents.
