Used-car seller routes in India: when is a certified programme premium justified?
Used-car buyers in India can deal directly with an individual owner, choose a manufacturer or dealer-certified programme, or use a large used-car retailer. A lower asking price does not guarantee lower risk, while a warranty or return policy does not replace an independent inspection.
| Seller route | Possible advantage | Evidence to demand |
|---|---|---|
| Individual owner | Direct history and negotiation | Identity, service and claim records, independent PPI and transfer documents |
| Certified programme | Written inspection or warranty process | Coverage exclusions, claim route, return terms and itemised premium |
| Large retailer | Inventory and transaction support | Independent-PPI access, warranty terms, fees and escalation ownership |
Parivahan identifies Forms 29 and 30 for a normal ownership transfer, with the detailed process varying by registration situation and state requirements.
Which seller route would you choose for your budget? What evidence must be verified before payment, and how large a premium is justified by written warranty, return or post-sale support?
