Used-car listing, RC and insurance don't match: what should an Indian buyer verify after delivery?
A used-car buyer can discover after delivery that the listing or delivery confirmation, RC/VAHAN record and insurance policy show different engine capacities or variant descriptions. A mismatch does not by itself establish the vehicle's identity or prove misrepresentation: records can abbreviate variants, so the immediate task is to reconcile the physical car and every document before choosing a remedy.
Evidence to reconcile
| Check | Compare |
|---|---|
| Identity | VIN, chassis and engine numbers on the car against all records |
| Official record | RC/VAHAN make, model, fuel, capacity and available details |
| Sale evidence | Listing, invoice, payment and delivery confirmation |
| Other records | Insurance, service history and trim-specific equipment |
| Remedy | Written correction, renegotiation or an applicable seller return policy |
Which discrepancy would make you pause use immediately, and what written evidence would you require before accepting correction, a revised price or return? Seller return terms are contract-specific, not a universal used-car right.
