TVS Apache RTR 310 vs KTM 250 Duke: when is a local discount worth choosing?

Question

In September 2026, a buyer comparing the TVS Apache RTR 310 and KTM 250 Duke may receive a local dealer discount. Compare written on-road quotes for the exact variants before treating that gap as real. The Reddit post that prompted this comparison has since been deleted, so its reported quote is not a current market fact.

Purchase checklist

Factor	Verified context	Buyer check
Price	KTM displays ₹2,26,767 ex-showroom Delhi for the 250 Duke; TVS prices depend on variant and location	Itemised same-city quotes, insurance, fees and accessories
Hardware	TVS lists a 312.2cc RTR 310 engine; KTM lists a colour TFT, Quickshifter+ and SuperMoto ABS	Equipment on the quoted trims and back-to-back test rides
Ride	Specifications cannot settle comfort or refinement	City traffic, open road, clutch, heat, brakes, seat and pillion fit
Support	Owner reports are individual experiences, not a reliability ranking	Local workshops, service estimates, parts lead times and warranty terms

A lower quote can favour the Apache if its ride, equipment and workshop suit the buyer. The Duke may suit someone who prefers its ride or local support. Which factor would decide your purchase: final price, useful equipment, test-ride feel, service quality or parts access?

The practical choice is the bike whose performance and nearby support work together, even if one dealer offers a tempting discount. The RTR 310 has a larger listed engine; that alone does not prove it will feel better in traffic. Ride both with attention to throttle response, clutch effort, heat and braking. Then ask each authorised workshop about parts lead times, written warranty handling and escalation if a fault recurs. Individual online service stories are useful questions for those visits, not a reliability verdict. A discount becomes persuasive only after those checks satisfy the buyer.

Compared on the same route, the useful evidence is how each motorcycle feels during slow turns, repeated stops, braking and a stretch at normal cruising speed. Note seat support, reach to the bars, pillion space and heat without assuming engine capacity predicts comfort. Check the exact variant’s braking equipment and controls, then use the test ride to separate a feature-list advantage from a safer, more comfortable fit.

Caution before turning a purchase discount into an ownership saving. Ask both workshops for the scheduled service chart, labour rates, common consumable prices and warranty exclusions, then compare the expected annual distance. Confirm whether any service package is included in the written quote and what happens if a part must be ordered. Those local answers offer a firmer running-cost basis than a bill from another Apache model or a single owner report.

Would the Apache still look cheaper after both dealers put the same insurance cover, registration and accessories into writing? The comparison post was deleted, so its quoted gap cannot establish a market price. Compare exact variants and the final payable amount before letting a headline discount decide the purchase.
