The Ioniq 5's retro futurism is a hit or miss.

Since the Ioniq 5's release, the car's design has been a big topic of conversation. It is boxy, yet sleek, angular, and has pixel like LED lights, making it stand out from the crowd of other EVs on the market. But some praise its bold styling as a breath of fresh air and others find it polarizing, or even gimmicky. With a retro feel but a futuristic twist, the design is a nod to Hyundai’s first mass produced car, the Pony. This is a unique approach to EV design, and it begs the question of whether it will age well or get dated quickly. Furthermore, the design is being debated by EV enthusiasts about its impact on aerodynamics and efficiency. Is this daring design direction a new standard for EV aesthetics or is it too niche to ever have broad appeal?

Absolute hit! That’s nice to see an EV that doesn’t look like a blob on wheels. I love the pixel lights, they’re so unique!

I think it's a miss. Too boxy and trying too hard to be something other than what it is. In a few years it will look dated.

It's growing on me. I didn’t think much of it at first but now I like how it stands out from the rest of the cars on the road.

I like the design, but I don’t like the fake grille. Why do EVs need to pretend they have grilles?

It's a hit for sure. It was a risk Hyundai took and it paid off. It’s like a concept car that actually got built.

Mixed feelings. It looks great on the outside but the inside is a bit too minimalist for my liking.

Definitely a hit. It has that retro future feeling that is so hot right now. And then it's instantly recognizable.
