So, why hasn’t Bajaj updated the Avenger series significantly in years?
For years Bajaj has not made any major changes to the Bajaj Avenger series, with only minor cosmetic updates and small engine tweaks over time. Many motorcycle enthusiasts have puzzled over a lack of such major upgrades leaving Bajaj’s reputation of innovation in other product lines in the lurch. For some, the company is concentrating on its KTM and Triumph partnerships, while others think the Avenger's consistent sales don't justify heavy investments. In an attempt to answer this question, we shall try to find out what could possibly have compelled Bajaj to limit the Avenger series to just two variants, and whether or not this strategy could be a boon, or rather a bane, for the brand in years to come.
Bajaj is playing it safe, I believe. Why fix what ain't broke when the Avenger sells decently with little to no marketing? They are their backup singer that keeps the show going while they pay attention to their KTM rockstars.
If you ask me, it’s pure laziness. They have the tech and the resources to make the Avenger amazing but they are just milking an old design. They are missing out on a huge cruiser market.
My theory? It's big, whatever they are planning. Or, maybe they are working on some sort of a complete overhaul and don’t want to waste resources on small updates. At least, that's what I hope!
It's probably a cost thing. Major updates would make the price go up, and the Avenger is their budget cruiser. It is keeping it available for entry level buyers.
I think it's just a branding issue. The Pulsars and KTMs are supposed to be the sporty brand of Bajaj. The Avenger might dilute that image if you invest too much in it. That’s sad, but it’s business.
