So why did the police force choose the TUV300 over all the other options?

This has raised eyebrows amongst automotive enthusiasts as various police forces across India have chosen the Mahindra TUV300. Some say its rugged build and vast interior make it perfect for police work, but others wonder if the problems with the vehicle make it the right choice. It also often turns on the question of which are more cost effective, which require less maintenance and which can be best suited for different terrains and urban environments. Some talk about possible deals between Mahindra and government agencies, others discuss the nuts and bolts of how the vehicle performs in high stress situations. The TUV300 beats out more established models such as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga or the Toyota Innova, and here is another angle to the discussion: How exactly did the TUV300 beat out these established models?

The TUV300 is simple, it is built like a tank. You need something that can be beat on and not break. It's got decent ground clearance, too, in case of those unexpected chases.

I think more of the deal Mahindra offered. A lot of government contracts are not about who can provide the best vehicle, but who can provide the best package.

The TUV300 is the perfect size for police work. It is big enough to be intimidating, but small enough to negotiate the tight city streets. Can you even try that with a Fortuner!

It’s probably a combination of things, cost, maintenance network, local manufacturing. Having a wide service network is very important for police vehicles which need to be on the road 247.

I think that it's the balance of ruggedness and economy. Yes, a Scorpio is tougher, but it’s also thirstier. It doesn’t break the budget but can take rough use.

Don't forget the patriotic angle. And an Indian made vehicle for police forces looks good and is good for local industry. It's a PR win-win.

That could be down to the modular nature of the TUV300. Mahindra is probably easier to outfit with police gear, and probably offers customization for law enforcement.
