So, why did Bajaj stop the Discover 100T, even though it was so popular?
During its production run, the Discover 100T got a lot of fans for its peppy performance and fuel efficiency. But many enthusiasts and potential buyers were surprised when Bajaj decided to discontinue the model. Bajaj’s product strategy, market trends and consumer preferences in India have become a talking point after the company’s decision. However, it is said that this was due to cannibalization within Bajaj’s own lineup or changing emission norms or changing consumer demand. With that, many were left wondering if Bajaj missed the opportunity to evolve the Discover 100T to modern standards.
It was simple - it was cannibalizing sales from their other models. The Platina and Pulsar lines probably made Bajaj more money.
Emission norms, mate. It would have been too expensive to update the engine to BS6 for the 100cc segment.
The reason I reckon is because people started moving to either basic 100cc bikes or more powerful 125cc+ bikes. The 100T sat awkwardly in the middle.
Here we go again with Bajaj's weird product strategy. They like to kill off good products for no reason.
Maybe it was too good? If it lasted too long, there were fewer repeat customers. Planned obsolescence and all that corporate nonsense.
I had heard it was due to parts sharing issues. Other models were updated and keeping the 100T alive became too expensive.
It's all about the margins. They axed the 100T because it probably had thin profit margins, in favor of higher margin models.
