So what is the deal with KTM reliability on the Duke 790?

by geeta kumariover 1 year ago0 views9 comments
When it comes to reliability, KTM motorcycles, especially the Duke 790, have a bit of a mixed reputation. Riders who swear by their KTMs have had trouble-free riding, while others have had frequent issues and dealership visits. Much of the debate revolves around build quality, component longevity, and how often one requires repair versus the Japanese competitors. Individual experiences can vary due to factors such as maintenance habits, riding conditions, and manufacturing variations. We also discuss whether KTM’s performance-oriented design philosophy means more wear and tear or if reports of problems are all over the internet forums. Also in the reliability equation are the cost and availability of parts and service.

The issue is the availability of parts. If something does break, you might have to wait weeks for a replacement to come from Austria.

I think the reliability issues are blown out of proportion. They're not Honda reliable, but they're not falling apart left and right either.

KTM is a race bike for the street. They are more work than your average commuter, but performance comes at a price.

It’s all in how you treat the bike. If you follow the maintenance schedule religiously, it’ll treat you right.

With each generation, the reliability is improving. The early models are much worse than the newer 790s.

My 790 has had nothing but trouble. Everything from oil leaks to electrical gremlins. Never buying another KTM.

Japanese bikes aren't as bulletproof, but if you take care of them, they're good. Only be aware that there will be more frequent services.

KTMs are hit or miss. I know people who have no problems with it, and I know people who are in the shop every other month. It's a gamble.

So far, my 790 has been rock solid for 20,000 miles. Online, people exaggerate the reliability problems.
